BICN's Three Current Priorities for Basic Income

In recent weeks, supporters of the Basic Income Canada Network (BICN) have enabled us, along with other partners, to succeed in several initiatives, including: meetings in Ottawa bringing together international expert Dr. Guy Standing with MPs and Senators, federal public servants and national policy experts; a BICN-affiliated conference in Halifax featuring Dr. Standing (a commitment to a Manitoba event has also been made); an address to a student-led health and human rights conference; media briefings and appearances; a public event in Lindsay, an important site in the Ontario pilot project; and the annual meeting of the Ontario Basic Income Network which approved the Lindsay Declaration for a Progressive Basic Income

That's just a snapshot of BICN's recent activity across Canada. There is much more action coming up and much more yet we could do. But to get there we need your financial help. We have three major funding priorities at this time:

1) Funds for key current operational needs such as printing our forthcoming Basic Income Primer series, capturing speaking opportunities across Canada, supporting special basic income events of local and regional partners, and making powerful online tools available to our supporters for advocacy to all governments and parties;

2) Funds for supporting a workshop in early 2018, in Toronto or Ottawa, with costing experts present to help refine our recommendations for forthcoming basic income policy design options;

3) Funds for beginning to pay personnel for coordination of our many and diverse activities, as a means to help us reach the next level of impact.

The financial backing of our supporters makes a difference! Over November, we aspire to raise $15,000 or more in support of our priorities. We are pleased to report that, as of this writing, we have raised over $5,000 towards this goal – over a third of the way there! This is a great start – and a hearty “thank you” to those who have made a one-time gift or have become one of our invaluable monthly donors (giving us a dependable stream of revenue)!

If you haven’t contributed to this campaign, please consider doing it now, making a one-time gift or becoming a monthly donor. (Please be aware that we are not able to issue a tax-charitable receipt - here's why.)

Thank you for your kind consideration!
